INTERSECTION_FROM THE DISTANCE
As an art piece that merges a contemporary cityscape into a traditional Asian landscape painting, crafted with lacquer and mother-of-pearl, “FROM THE DISTANCE” symbolizes the artist through overgrown green mountains, living creatures, and cities. The densely packed urban scene and the contrasting refreshing natural landscape coexist in time and space, creating an entity of mutual coexistence rather than conflict.
“From the Distance” incorporates a contemporary city into a traditional Asian landscape painting, created with paint and mother-of-pearl. The artwork features Manhattan, New York, as its subject—a place where I once studied diligently and nurtured my dreams. However, it could also be seen as resembling Seoul, with its harmonious blend of mountains and buildings. To another viewer, it might represent the city where they reside.
The mountains, blanketed with lush forests, stand in contrast to the bustling city that never rests. The deer, ducks, and cranes scattered throughout the scene enjoy nature to its fullest, symbolizing my desire to connect with nature while living in a distant urban environment.
The densely packed urban scene and the contrasting refreshing natural landscape overlap in time and space, existing together without conflict and without prioritizing one over the other.
